Tour Details

As the owners of Bosbok Safaris we are very proud to be in the position to offer so much more than the average safari operator.

Firstly, both Phil and Kate are qualified wildlife biologists, enthusiastic conservationists and amateur historians, and can bring a whole new dimension to your experience of touring our country. We spent several years working for our wildlife department, working on elephant and cheetah research projects, giving us insight into the wildlife industry and intimate knowledge of the lay of the land. Phil/and/or and Kate will be your guides on all tours.

Secondly, our main lodge is situated in an ideal part of the country to guide you on a very satisfying and varied photo safari.

All these locations are within a one or two hour drive or much less, of our main accommodation:

        • The World Famous Kruger National Park. Most of our clients choose to spend 2 nights.
        • Blyde River Canyon, largest green canyon, and 3rd largest canyon in the world
        • The wildlife tourist town of  Hoedspruit, with many activities on offer: horse riding in a nature reserve, visit to animal rescue centers, Big Five morning safari, a day at a nature spa, shopping for gifts, golfing in the wild, visit to a giant Baobab tree

We have good contacts in Cape Town and can help you to plan a rewarding trip to our beautiful Mother city.

We can tailor-make a safari to suit your interests and your budget and in almost every case, either Phil or Kate will be your guides.

Last of all: We do not mix groups, allowing us the time to spend on your specific needs and to modify plans to suit the makeup of your group.

Please make inquiries should you need help in putting together a guided tour, and we can make some suggestions and offer advice.

What to Expect

Travel Tips

Ensure that your travel documents are in order. You need only a passport for access to South Africa and the necessary gun importation paperwork should you be bringing a rifle with you.

Plan your flights way in advance and let your Outfitter know immediately; this will ensure the smooth running of your safari.

Please ensure that your Temporary Rifle importation documents are completed in good time. Contact aftongh@netactive.co.za in this regard. Contact person is Annelise.

If you are planning to do any side trips/tours, that involve an overnight stay, please inform your Outfitter of this in good time
as places like the Kruger National Park are often booked up way in advance.

MONEY AND PAYMENT AT THE END OF YOUR SAFARI

We cannot unfortunately process payment through credit cards, but all retail outlets in the country accept these and all you need do is inform your bank before you leave the US, that you will be using the card in South Africa. It is perfectly safe to bring some US dollar along with you.

Cash in ZAR (South African Rands) can easily be withdrawn from the numerous ATM’s across the country. The general rule of thumb regarding cost to you, is 1% of the total transaction. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE APPROPRIATE PIN NUMBERS AT HAND.

You may also make an electronic transfer for the guaranteed portion of your safari (your accommodation) in advance of the safari. This is the most cost effective way of doing things.

Suggested Packing List for a 7-DAY SAFARI

Travel light wherever possible. Please remember that we offer a free daily laundry service.

    • One outfit for travel
    • Four shirts, long and/or short sleeved
    • Two pairs of shorts
    • Three pairs of long pants
    • Warm jacket and two sweaters
    • Warm underwear (for the coldest early mornings and evenings when you may be traveling in an open vehicle)
    • Well worn comfortable walking shoes or boots
    • Comfortable shoes for those down times in the evenings
    • Four pairs of socks and underwear
    • Gloves
    • Hat/cap for sun protection and woollen cap for colder weather
    • All personal toiletries and medications
    • If space allows, second-hand clothing and candy are always very welcomed by the camp and field staff.
    • Travel light. It is not necessary to bring “survival gear” and our camp has an up-to-date First Aid Kit
    • You may want to pack a few favorite snacks, but the meals are substantial and you will probably not need these
    • If possible, bring a flash drive to transfer and store photographs from your Professional Hunter’s or other companions’ cameras.

Tipping Guide

As you are probably aware, tipping in the hunting industry is a common practice, but it can be an awkward subject to talk
about. Here are a couple of guidelines:One outfit for travel

    • Professional Hunter/Guide: $50-$150 per day or 5-7% of your total bill.
    • Skinners, trackers and drivers: $60-$150 for safari
    • Maids:$50-$150 for safari
    • Cook: $50-$200 for safari

Please bear in mind that these are only suggestions, and the decision on tipping is ultimately up to you. A tip should reflect the level and quality of service you received for the duration of your safari.
Tips in US$ cash are always very welcome. Americans are renowned for their generosity and many visitors also bring clothing, candy, school materials or other gestures of kindness which are always well received.

DON’T FORGET!

  • Camera and charger or extra batteries if necessary
  • Binoculars (suggested, 8×30 to 10×40)
  • Sun protection cream
  • All personal medications/prescriptions
  • Personal Invitation for rifle import and supporting documents

The darker shades of khaki are preferable to the lighter shades. Camouflage clothing is perfectly acceptable. Try to avoid noisy materials.

We use 220v electricity and provide safe converter plugs for your convenience. The converters available for purchase in the USA do not work in SOUTH Africa (a country), but could well be suitable for other parts of the continent of AFRICA.

About Bosbok Safaris

Your Hosts

Resident Professional Hunter and Outfitter, Phil de Kock, a 13th generation South African and his wife Kate, each have more than 30 years of experience in the fields of wildlife, hunting and conservation in South Africa. During this period, Phil has been involved full-time in professional hunting and both of them in game management and in various aspects of wildlife research, in particular, working with elephants. Kate has been closely involved in all these activities, as well as in catering, marketing and camp management. As a team they will do their utmost to ensure that your entire stay is one to remember and cherish for the rest of your life. For larger groups, reliable and experienced Professional hunters and guides are available to assist. We always try to offer exclusivity, in the sense that we do not accommodate two unrelated parties in the same location, unless otherwise discussed. We enjoy hosting family groups, father and son safaris and have often hosted honeymoon couples!

We pride ourselves in making this so much more than just your normal safari, and all our past clients (friends) insist that we should accentuate the fact that we can teach you a thing or two about the fauna and flora we live alongside, and share stories about our years of experience involved in elephant research and various interesting encounters with wild animals and raising our two sons in the bush.

Fine Dining at Bosbok

Care is taken to establish your dietary preferences before the safari commences, ensuring that the cuisine and drinks are to your taste and of the highest standard. We always prepare the choice cuts from animals harvested, offering you the opportunity to taste the local venison. No meat goes to waste, as the needs of the local community are always taken into account.
